EPEA May Update #2 (May 13)

Are you counting down the days, EPEA?

As we see warmer and sunnier days, we want to finish off the year strong together. The following newsletter items give a brief glimpse on how were hope to wrap up May.

MAY 16 = SWAG DAY:

To continue our work in presenting a visual united front, Monday, May 16th, will be EPEA / EPPEA Sway day. Please wear your swag on this day and you could be "caught having union pride" and win a $25 Target gift card on the spot.

Mark your calendars:

wear your swag on May 16th!

UNION WEEK FEEDBACK OPPORTUNITY:

Thank you for participating in our 1st annual "Union Week." A huge shout out to Linda Enck for all the behind-the-scenes work that went into coordinating the events.

We want to capture some feedback from you as to what could improve our organization's unity in the upcoming year. EPEA leadership encourages you to take the opportunity to provide your voice.

Please respond by June 3. Please find the anonymous feedback tool here (10 minutes):

EPEA POSITIONS AVAIALBLE:

The EPEA is currently seeking candidates to serve in a few key roles within our organization, all of which receive a stipend. If you or someone you know may be a good fit, please direct interest to Dominic Kirkpatrick.

The following positions are available:

1) Site Representative: This position serves as the first line of advocacy for individuals at your site. A site representative meets with the building admin, Rep. Congress, and site members to discuss and find solutions for any areas of concern. (Oak Point Elementary, Lower Campus, EP Online)

2) Member Rights Advocate Trainee: This position has the opportunity to train alongside a seasoned member rights advocate for a school year to learn best practices of representing members in situations of discipline or contract violations. (1 secondary, 1 elementary.)

3) Engagement Coordinator / Chair: This position helps to plan, organize, and execute EPEA events for the year, alongside the EPEA President.

4) Potential Member Recruiter: This position reaches out to those who have not yet chosen to be members; they make themselves available to answer questions, provide support, and introduce the vast benefits of membership.

CAMPAIGN 2022: Did you know there will be FIVE open seats for the Nov. 2022 school board election? Now is the time to recruit possible candidates to put their name in the running for open seats. We need former educators, former

colleagues, retired educators, and educator-friendly residents to be on this year's slate. This election could change the trajectory of how the school board functions, what policy decisions are made by our admin teams, and how feedback and communication are delivered to the public. Please consider reaching out to viable possible candidates who would be pro-educator to consider running for school board and pass on the name to Dominic Kirkpatrick.

We are so honored to serve you all. Please reach out for the support you need. Wishing you sunshine and warm days!

Blessings,

Dominic and your EPEA leadership team
